Advanced Fafnir hybrid ball bearings combine ceramic rolling elements with superfinished steel rings to run faster, cooler and longer in high-speed machine tool spindles and other demanding applications. The hybrid combination of materials provides superior ceramic performance at a cost-effective price.

Super Precision ceramic hybrid bearings deliver outstanding service life and operating characteristics at high spindle speeds. The advanced design and materials help improve rigidity while reducing noise, vibration and operating temperature.

Fafnir ceramic hybrid bearings help machine tool spindles achieve maximum accuracy at speeds greater than 2 million DN under air/oil lubrication, with reduced skidding, wear and heat generation. Speeds greater than 1 million DN are possible with grease lubrication.

The lightweight silicon nitride balls have a superfine surface finish and high hardness (Rc78) that can help to extend service life up to 5 times that of standard steel bearings. Low friction characteristics enhance operation under minimal lubrication conditions and increase both life and speed capabilities of lubricants.

The ceramic’s greater modulus of elasticity significantly increases rigidity over steel bearings. Greater bearing rigidity improves spindle stiffness and accuracy for precise machining. Low thermal expansion helps maintain consistent bearing preload and stiffness at high speeds.

ABEC 9 ultra-precision geometry and micron-coded bores and outside diameters add to superior system performance. Each bearing is 100% functionally tested per ABMA Standard 13. This assures consistent quality and smooth, low noise.

Precision, stiffness, high speeds: The SNR high precision bearings meet the most stringent needs.

They also permit machining timesavings as well as maintenance cost savings, and their good load capacity and low heating feature contribute to longer service life.
 
Technical data:

  • Universal or matched set bearings.
  • Very high quality 100 Cr6 steel rings and balls.
  • Two contact angles: 15° (CV Series) and 25 ° (HV Series).
  • Three preload levels.
  • Laminate resin cage centred on the outer ring.

For applications requiring even higher rotating speeds, SNR proposes bearings fitted with ceramic balls, qualified as "hybrids" (CH prefix), on request.

Their specific properties allow increased rotating speeds without over-heating, while improving bearing stiffness and increasing bearing and associated part service life.

For all its series, SNR proposes 2 precision levels ISO4 and ISO2, corresponding to the highest precision tolerances in effect for ball bearings.
