Gates belts & hose, sold & sourced by Dalton Bearing Service
Dalton Bearing Service supplies Gates V-belts, synchronous belts, sprockets and hydraulic hose products to plants and shops, working from our counter at 601 S Glenwood Ave in Dalton, Georgia. Gates is a Denver-based manufacturer of power transmission and fluid power products.
On the V-belt side, the names you will see on a worn belt are Hi-Power II for classical A, B, C and D sections, Super HC for narrow 3V, 5V and 8V sections and their cogged 3VX and 5VX versions, and Predator for hard-working drives. PowerBand belts join several V-belts across a common top band to stop whip and turnover on multi-groove drives. Micro-V is the Gates name for multi-rib belts.
For synchronous drives, PowerGrip covers rubber timing belts, including PowerGrip GT4 in 8M and 14M pitches, and Poly Chain GT Carbon is the polyurethane and carbon-cord line for high-torque drives. Check the sprockets before you order a Poly Chain belt, because pitch and profile have to match. Gates also makes tensioners, idlers, pulleys and sprockets.
On the fluid power side, Gates makes hydraulic hose and couplings, including the MegaSys family and MXT wire-braid hose, with GlobalSpiral and MegaCrimp couplings, plus industrial hose.
To quote a belt, read us everything printed on the back, such as 5VX850 or 8MGT-1120-21. If the print has worn off, send the top width, the outside length and the number of ribs or teeth. For hose, send the size, working pressure, fluid, length and both end fittings.
If a Gates number has a long lead time, we will tell you up front and look at a cross-reference, such as Optibelt, Bando or Carlisle, checked for section and length. Send a part number or a photo, and a person at our counter will price it and give you a lead time.
Gates ownership & history
Gates began in Denver in 1911, when Charles Gates Sr. bought the Colorado Tire and Leather Company, which made steel-studded leather tire bands. The company commercialized its rubber V-belt in 1917. It later became the Gates Rubber Company, built its first plant outside the US in Belgium in 1963, and bought Uniroyal's power transmission business in 1986.
The Gates family sold the company to Tomkins plc, a UK engineering group, in 1996. Onex and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board took Tomkins private in September 2010, and funds affiliated with Blackstone bought Gates in July 2014. Gates went public on the New York Stock Exchange in January 2018 under the ticker GTES. Blackstone sold down in stages and fully exited in December 2024, so Gates Industrial Corporation plc is now a widely held public company with no controlling parent. It keeps its headquarters in Denver.

Dalton Bearing Service has kept plants running from Dalton, Georgia since 1946. We are an independent industrial distributor, not the manufacturer — which means we can quote Gates belts & hose straight from stock or our supplier network and, when a number is backordered or discontinued, offer a checked cross-reference — often from Browning, Optibelt or Bando. Send a part number, a photo of the nameplate, or just the dimensions, and a real person gets back to you with price and availability, usually the same day.
