Winsmith gear reducers, sold & sourced by Dalton Bearing Service
Dalton Bearing Service supplies Winsmith worm gear speed reducers, drives and output shafts from our counter at 601 S Glenwood Ave in Dalton, Georgia, and ships worldwide. Winsmith has built gear reducers in Springville, New York, since 1924, and it also has plants in Flowery Branch, Georgia, and Asheville, North Carolina. That Georgia plant puts it close to our customers.
The core of the line is the worm gear speed reducer: single- and double-reduction units in cast iron and aluminum housings, with quill or coupled input and solid or hollow output shafts. Winsmith also makes helical-worm and planetary reducers, washdown and stainless units for food plants, and drop-in replacements for many older reducer footprints. Replacement output shafts, seals, bearings and input adapters are available for most current Winsmith models.
Older Winsmith and Peerless-Winsmith reducers are still common in plants. The nameplate model code tells you the case size, ratio and mounting. Send us a photo of the tag and we can usually quote an exact replacement or a current equivalent. If the reducer has to be up tomorrow, tell us the ratio, shaft sizes and mounting position, and we will check Winsmith stock and comparable reducers from other makers.
Send us a part number, a photo, or a description, and our team will track it down and get you a price.
Winsmith ownership & history
Winfield H. Smith founded Winsmith in Buffalo, New York, in 1901, and the company moved to Springville, New York, in 1924. For decades the business was known as Peerless-Winsmith, and many older reducers and catalogs still carry that name.
Winsmith is part of HBD Industries, a privately held, family-owned industrial group. HBD acquired Winsmith from H. K. Porter Company in the late 1980s, along with Peerless Electric and Ohio Electric Motors. HBD's other current businesses include Perfection Gear, Powertec and Ohio Electric Motors, Thermoid rubber products and Ohio Magnetics. None of those brands has a page on this site.

Why buy Winsmith gear reducers from Dalton Bearing
Dalton Bearing Service has kept plants running from Dalton, Georgia since 1946. We are an independent industrial distributor, not the manufacturer — which means we can quote Winsmith gear reducers straight from stock or our supplier network and, when a number is backordered or discontinued, offer a checked cross-reference — often from Grove Gear, Dodge or Cone Drive. Send a part number, a photo of the nameplate, or just the dimensions, and a real person gets back to you with price and availability, usually the same day.
Need something besides Winsmith? We source ball bearings, roller bearings, mounted bearings, plain bearings, couplings, chain drives and more across 160 manufacturer lines — browse every brand or send us your whole list and we will quote it in one go.
