Nexen Clutches & Brakes

Manufacturer line

Nexen clutches & brakes, sold & sourced by Dalton Bearing Service

Dalton Bearing Service supplies Nexen clutches and brakes, torque limiters, couplings, gearheads and linear positioning components from our counter at 601 S Glenwood Ave in Dalton, Georgia, and ships them wherever your plant is. Nexen is the industrial power-transmission maker from Minnesota. It is not the tire company of the same name.

Nexen is best known for air-engaged clutches and brakes: shaft-mounted and flange-mounted pneumatic clutches, spring-engaged brakes, and clutch-brake combinations for presses, converting lines and indexing drives. The line also includes pneumatic and mechanical torque limiters that disengage on a jam, web tension brakes and controls for unwind stands, precision gearheads, and the Roller Pinion System (RPS), a rack-and-pinion alternative for long-travel linear positioning on gantries and cutting tables.

Most Nexen repair work comes down to friction facings, pistons, seals and springs. Nexen sells repair and facing kits for most clutch and brake models, and a rebuild is often faster and cheaper than replacing the whole unit. Send us the model and size from the tag, or the part number from the kit, and we will quote both the kit and the complete unit.

Send us a part number, a photo of the nameplate, or a description, and a real person will track it down and get you a price. If the exact Nexen number is on backorder, we will tell you that up front and offer a cross-reference.

Nexen ownership & history

Nexen traces its roots to Horton, a manufacturer founded in 1902. In 1951 Hugh Schilling Sr. and three investors bought Horton and its assets. In January 1999 Horton split into two companies. Hugh K. (Hutch) Schilling Jr. acquired the industrial products business and renamed it Nexen Group, Inc. in June 1999. The other half kept the Horton name and is a separate company.

Nexen remains privately held and family-owned, with headquarters in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota. We found no announced sale or merger.
