Schaeffler (FAG & INA) Bearings

Schaeffler (FAG & INA) Bearings, sold & sourced by Dalton Bearing Service

Dalton Bearing Service supplies Schaeffler bearings and motion components from our counter at 601 S Glenwood Ave in Dalton, Georgia. Schaeffler is the group behind two bearing brands that maintenance buyers already know. INA needle and roller bearings cover drawn cup and machined needle bearings, cam followers, thrust and crossed roller bearings. FAG ball and roller bearings cover deep groove, angular contact, cylindrical, tapered and spherical roller bearings. The group also makes linear guidance (profiled rail guides, linear bushings and, through Ewellix, linear actuators) and plain bearings such as spherical plain bearings and rod ends.

Schaeffler leads with its own name on catalogs and its website, while the INA and FAG names stay on the parts. For ordering, this means:

  • The number on the bearing still decides the part. An FAG or INA number in a Schaeffler box is the same bearing.
  • INA covers needle, cam follower, linear and many specialty bearings. FAG covers the ball and larger roller bearings. If you are unsure which brand you have, send the number and we will sort it out.
  • Within the Schaeffler range we can often cross an INA number to an FAG one, or the reverse, when one is on backorder.

We supply Schaeffler parts for textile and carpet machinery, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, fans and mobile equipment. Send us a part number, a photo of the nameplate or the old bearing, or a description, and a person will track it down, price it and tell you honestly when it will arrive. If the exact Schaeffler number is on backorder, we will tell you that first and offer a cross-reference.

Schaeffler ownership & history

Schaeffler began as INA, founded in 1946 in Herzogenaurach, Germany, by Wilhelm and Georg Schaeffler, whose cage-guided needle roller bearing (patent filed 1950) built the business. INA added the clutch maker LuK in stages between 1965 and 1999. In 2001 it won control of FAG Kugelfischer of Schweinfurt, whose roots go back to Friedrich Fischer's 1883 ball grinder. In 2003 INA, FAG and LuK were brought together as the Schaeffler Group.

Schaeffler AG listed its shares in 2015. In 2023 it bought Ewellix, the linear motion and actuator business SKF had sold off in 2018. On October 1, 2024 Schaeffler merged with Vitesco Technologies, the former Continental powertrain business, and reorganized into four divisions. Industrial bearings, including the FAG and INA lines we sell, sit in Bearings & Industrial Solutions.
